Using colestipol together with digoxin may decrease the effects of digoxin. Digoxin should be administered at least one to two hours before or four hours after colestipol. Contact your doctor if your condition changes. If your doctor prescribes these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Colestipol may decrease absorption and enterohepatic recirculation of digoxin. Serum concentrations and pharmacologic effect may be reduced. Data are conflicting.

MANAGEMENT: Digoxin should be administered at least one to two hours before or four hours after colestipol. It may be prudent to monitor patients for altered clinical response and to monitor digoxin levels. Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they experience worsening of their heart symptoms. Conversely, patients should be monitored for digoxin toxicity if colestipol is discontinued.
