Consumer:Before getting treatment with collagenase clostridium histolyticum, let your doctor know if you are currently using or have used fondaparinux within the last 7 days. These medications can cause bleeding complications, and using them together may increase the risk. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience any unusual bleeding or bruising, or have other signs and symptoms of bleeding such as dizziness; lightheadedness; red or black, tarry stools; coughing up or vomiting fresh or dried blood that looks like coffee grounds; severe headache; and weakness. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: The safety and efficacy of collagenase clostridium histolyticum in patients currently receiving, or within 7 days of receiving, anticoagulant medications other than low-dose aspirin (e.g., up to 150 mg/day) is unknown. Theoretically, the risk of bleeding complications may be increased. In clinical trials, 70% of collagenase clostridium histolyticum-treated patients developed an ecchymosis/contusion and 38% developed an injection site hemorrhage.
MANAGEMENT: Collagenase clostridium histolyticum should be used with caution in patients receiving or within 7 days of receiving anticoagulants (except for low-dose aspirin), platelet inhibitors, or thrombolytic agents.
