Comtrex Flu Therapy Day/Night and Echinacea
Determining the interaction of Comtrex Flu Therapy Day/Night and Echinacea and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Consumer information for this interaction is not currently available.MONITOR: Coadministration with echinacea may increase the plasma concentrations and the risk of adverse effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP450 1A2. The proposed mechanism is decreased clearance due to echinacea-mediated inhibition of CYP450 1A2. Echinacea has been shown to increase the plasma levels of caffeine, a CYP450 1A2 substrate, by approximately 30%. Due to limited data, the clinical consequences of this interaction are unknown. MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised if echinacea is used concomitantly with drugs that are substrates of CYP450 1A2, particularly those with a narrow therapeutic range. Dosage adjustments as well as clinical and laboratory monitoring should be considered whenever echinacea is added to or withdrawn from therapy with these drugs. Patients should be monitored for the development of adverse effects. References Gorski JC, Huang SM, Pinto A, et al.
