Consumer:Ketoconazole may increase the blood levels of dalfampridine. You may be more likely to experience side effects such as nausea, insomnia, dizziness, weakness, headache, confusion, and seizures. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects during treatment with these medications. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: The concomitant use of dalfampridine with drugs that are inhibitors of organic cation transporter 2 (OCT2) may theoretically reduce its renal clearance. Dalfampridine is primarily eliminated through renal excretion, approximately 60% of which is via active secretion by OCT2. The risk of CNS excitation and seizures may be increased.
MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised when dalfampridine is used with OCT2 inhibitors.
