Ask your doctor before using diazePAM together with fluvoxaMINE. This can cause drowsiness, confusion, muscle weakness, fainting, or coma. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

GENERALLY AVOID: One study has reported that fluvoxamine significantly decreases the clearance of diazepam and desmethyldiazepam in healthy volunteers. The mean half-life of diazepam increased from 51 hours to 118 hours. The mechanism is inhibition of hepatic CYP450 metabolism. Other benzodiazepines that are metabolized by this route may also be affected.

MANAGEMENT: The manufacturer states that fluvoxamine and diazepam should not be given together. Lorazepam, oxazepam, and temazepam are metabolized by glucuronidation and are not expected to be affected by fluvoxamine.
