Consumer:Using benzphetamine together with delavirdine may increase the effects of benzphetamine. Contact your doctor if you experience restlessness, tremor, rapid breathing, confusion, hallucinations, panic, aggressiveness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, an irregular heartbeat, and seizures. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor
Professional:MONITOR: According to the product labeling for delavirdine, coadministration of the drug may increase the plasma concentrations of amphetamines. The proposed mechanism is delavirdine inhibition of the CYP450 2D6 metabolism of amphetamines.
MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised if amphetamines are prescribed in combination with delavirdine. Patients should be monitored for excessive anorectic and central nervous system stimulant effects of amphetamines.
