Consumer:Using disopyramide together with quiNIDine may alter the effects of both medications. This could affect the rhythm of your heart. Contact your doctor if you experience dizziness, weakness, headache, difficulty breathing, and an irregular heartbeat. This may also cause other side effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision, and urinary retention. You may need a dose adjustment or special test if you use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Quinidine may slightly increase serum disopyramide levels. Disopyramide may decrease serum quinidine levels. The mechanism is unknown. In addition, QT interval prolongation and excessive QRS complex widening may occur with this combination. The risk of arrhythmias, including ventricular tachycardia, fibrillation, and torsades de pointes may be increased.
MANAGEMENT: Patients should be monitored for clinical, electrocardiographic and laboratory evidence of efficacy and toxicity. Patients should be advised to seek medical help if they experience syncope, palpitations, or irregular heartbeats, and to notify their physician if they excessive anticholinergic effects (e.g., dry mouth, blurred vision, urinary retention).
