Consumer:

Using disopyramide together with rifAMPin may decrease the effects of disopyramide. Contact your doctor if you experience dizziness, palpitations, irregular heartbeats, dry mouth, blurred vision, and urinary retention. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: Rifampin may significantly decrease the plasma concentrations of disopyramide and increase concentrations of its metabolites by inducing CYP450 3A4 hepatic metabolism. Theoretically, a similar reaction may occur with rifabutin. Loss of antiarrhythmic effect and increased anticholinergic effects may occur.

MANAGEMENT: While receiving rifampin, patients should be monitored for clinical and laboratory evidence of inadequate response to disopyramide and dosages increased as necessary. Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they experience a worsening of their arrhythmia or anticholinergic effects such as dry mouth, blurry vision, or urinary retention.
