A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Consumer information for this minor interaction is not currently available. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients. Minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed.
Professional:Coadministration with valproic acid may slightly decrease the plasma concentrations of the pharmacologically active 10-monohydroxy metabolite of oxcarbazepine known as MHD. The mechanism of interaction has not been established. Administration of oxcarbazepine 600 to 1800 mg/day in combination with valproic acid 400 to 2800 mg/day has resulted in an average reduction of MHD plasma concentrations by approximately 18%. This magnitude of change is not expected to be clinically relevant. Oxcarbazepine had no significant effect on the pharmacokinetics of valproic acid.
