Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. It affects the signals in the brain that trigger cough reflex.

Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.

Phenylephrine is a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passages. Dilated blood vessels can cause nasal congestion (stuffy nose).

Dytan-DM is a combination medicine used to treat cough, runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes caused by allergies, the common cold, or the flu.

Dytan-DM will not treat a cough that is caused by smoking, asthma, or emphysema.

Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Percogesic may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities.

Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while you are taking Percogesic. Alcohol may also cause damage to your liver when taken with acetaminophen.
