Consumer:Erythromycin may increase the blood levels and effects of traMADol. This can increase side effects such as nausea, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness, difficulty concentrating, impairment in thinking and judgment, respiratory depression, and low blood pressure. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Coadministration with drugs that are inhibitors of the CYP450 3A4 isoenzymes may increase the plasma concentrations of tramadol and its active O-demethylated metabolite. The risk of adverse effects including seizures and serotonin syndrome may be increased.
MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised if tramadol is used concomitantly with medications that inhibit CYP450 3A4 metabolism. Dosage adjustments as well as clinical monitoring may be appropriate whenever there drugs are added to or withdrawn from therapy.
