Using ISOtretinoin together with carBAMazepine may decrease the effects of carBAMazepine. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience loss of seizure control. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

MONITOR: A case report has suggested that isotretinoin may decrease the AUC of carbamazepine. Pharmacologic effects may be reduced. The mechanism is unknown.

MANAGEMENT: Clinical monitoring of serum carbamazepine concentrations and patient response is recommended when isotretinoin is added to or discontinued from an existing regimen, or when the dosage is changed. Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they experience a reduction in or loss of efficacy.
