Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach.

Esomeprazole injection is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Esomeprazole is also used to promote healing of erosive esophagitis (damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid).

Esomeprazole injection is also used to lower the risk of a stomach ulcer bleeding again after an endoscopy treatment.

Symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Management of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in children ≥2 years of age.

Has been reported to be effective in the management of ankylosing spondylitis (late stages did not respond as well as early stages); has also been used with some success in the treatment of adhesive capsulitis shoulder (frozen shoulder), radiohumeral bursitis (tennis elbow), and local trauma (e.g., recent sprains).
