Ethacrynic Sodium and Novo-Cholamine Light
Determining the interaction of Ethacrynic Sodium and Novo-Cholamine Light and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using cholestyramine together with ethacrynic acid may decrease the effects of ethacrynic acid. Ethacrynic acid should be administered at least 2 to 3 hours before cholestyramine. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Limited data have shown that the bioavailability of orally administered furosemide is reduced by 95% during concurrent administration of cholestyramine and by 80% during concurrent administration of colestipol. (These figures are based on data from the area under the plasma concentration-time curve and total urinary elimination data.) These decreases in bioavailability were associated with 77% and 58% reductions in the diuretic response to furosemide. No data are available for bumetanide, torsemide, or ethacrynic acid, but a similar interaction is suspected.
MANAGEMENT: Diuretics should be administered at least 2 to 3 hours before cholestyramine or colestipol. If alternating dosage schedules is ineffective, it may be necessary to increase diuretic dosage during coadministration. Patients should be monitored for altered diuretic efficacy.
