Estradiol vaginal insert and ring are used to treat changes in and around the vagina (such as vaginal dryness, itching, and burning) caused by low estrogen levels or menopause.

Estradiol vaginal ring is also used to treat moderate to severe hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause or low amounts of estrogen. The hormone from the vaginal ring is absorbed through your vagina. It works by preventing symptoms, such as feelings of warmth in the face, neck, and chest, or sudden strong feelings of heat and sweating (hot flashes) in women during menopause.

Estradiol vaginal insert is also used to treat moderate to severe painful sexual intercourse caused by menopause.

Used in conjunction with achievement and maintenance of adequate hydration for the treatment of moderate to severe hypercalcemia associated with malignant neoplasms, with or without bone metastases.

More conservative measures (e.g., hydration alone or combined with loop diuretics) generally used for treatment of mild or asymptomatic hypercalcemia. Corticosteroid therapy may be beneficial in hypercalcemia associated with hematological malignancies.

Consider retreatment in patients with recurrent or refractory disease.

Treatment of moderate to severe Paget’s disease of bone (osteitis deformans) in symptomatic patients with multiple bone involvement [polyostotic] and elevated concentrations of serum alkaline phosphatase and urinary hydroxyproline.

May prevent or slow progression of complications (e.g., deformities, arthritis, fractures, neurologic manifestations, spinal cord compression, heart failure) in patients with Paget’s disease of bone. May not reverse established complications (e.g., severe deformities, deafness).

Treatment in patients refractory to calcitonin or etidronate disodium.

Used as an adjunct to antineoplastic therapy for the treatment of osteolytic bone metastases of breast cancer and osteolytic lesions of multiple myeloma.

Decreases the incidence and delays the development of bone-related complications (e.g., fractures or spinal cord compression, bone deterioration requiring radiotherapy or orthopedic surgery), and reduces bone pain and the need for supplemental analgesic therapy.
