Consumer:

MetroNIDAZOLE may increase the blood levels of torsemide. This can increase side effects such as dehydration, low blood pressure, dizziness, electrolyte disturbances, increased blood sugar, ringing in the ears, and hearing loss. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: Coadministration with inhibitors of CYP450 2C9 may increase the plasma concentrations of torsemide. The interaction has not been evaluated in pharmacokinetic studies; however, torsemide has been shown to undergo metabolism by CYP450 2C9.

MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised when torsemide is prescribed with CYP450 2C9 inhibitors. Patients should be monitored for potentially increased adverse effects such as dehydration, hypotension, electrolyte imbalances, hyperglycemia, tinnitus, and hearing loss.
