A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Consumer:

Talk to your doctor before using fluPHENAZine together with methIMAzole. Combining these medications may increase the risk of agranulocytosis, a rare but serious and potentially fatal disorder that affects white blood cells. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if you develop signs and symptoms of infection such as fever, chills, body aches, sore throat, coughing, breathing difficulties, mouth ulcers, or flu-like symptoms. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR CLOSELY: The concomitant use of fluphenazine and antithyroid agents may theoretically increase the risk of agranulocytosis. The mechanism of this interaction is unknown but may be related to synergistic effects as both drugs have been associated with agranulocytosis.

MANAGEMENT: If these drugs must be used together, close observation and testing for evidence of granulocytopenia is recommended. Patients should be advised to promptly report any symptoms such as tiredness, weakness, sore throat, fever, stomatitis, malaise, or flu-like symptoms.
