Relevance: 21.07.2022 Reviewer: Shkutko P.M., M.D., in

In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Consumer:

Using posaconazole together with fosamprenavir can alter the blood levels and effects of both medications. Specifically, posaconazole levels may decrease, which may make the medication less effective in treating your fungal infection. At the same time, fosamprenavir levels may increase, and you may experience more frequent and/or severe side effects such as diarrhea, rash, nausea, vomiting, increased blood sugar, and increased cholesterol or triglycerides. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: The concomitant use of fosamprenavir and posaconazole may result in decreased plasma levels of posaconazole and increased plasma levels of the active metabolite of fosamprenavir. In a clinical study with healthy subjects, the administration of posaconazole 400 mg twice daily and fosamprenavir 700 mg twice daily resulted in a 23% decrease in the AUC of posaconazole. The extent of the interaction of posaconazole with fosamprenavir/ritonavir is unknown.

MANAGEMENT: Patients should be monitored for altered antifungal efficacy of posaconazole and for symptoms of fosamprenavir toxicity.
