Relevance: 03.10.2022 Reviewer: Shkutko P.M., M.D., in

In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Consumer:

Using frovatriptan together with methylergonovine is not recommended. Combining these medications may have additive effects and cause excessive narrowing of blood vessels in the body. This can reduce blood flow to vital organs and increase the risk of rare but serious side effects such as high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, and gangrene (death of tissues, usually in the arm or leg, that may require surgical amputation). You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, numbness or tingling, muscle pain or weakness, blue or purple discoloration of fingers or toes, pale or cold skin, chest pain or tightness, irregular heartbeat, severe headache, shortness of breath, blurred vision, confusion, and/or slurred speech during treatment with these medications. Do not take larger doses or use the drug more frequently than prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

CONTRAINDICATED: Coadministration of two or more 5-HT1 receptor agonists and/or ergotamine-containing or ergot-type medications may potentiate the risk of vasospastic reactions, including coronary artery vasospasm, peripheral vascular ischemia and colonic ischemia, due to additive pharmacologic effects. Acute myocardial infarction due to sustained vasospasm occurred in a premenopausal woman with controlled hypertension and no known history of coronary artery disease following two 2 mg doses of methysergide maleate 12 hours apart and a subcutaneous injection of sumatriptan 6 mg.

MANAGEMENT: The concomitant use of two or more 5-HT1 receptor agonists and/or ergotamine-containing or ergot-type medications, or use within 24 hours of each other, is considered contraindicated.
