Furosemide Injection and Somnote

In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Using intravenous furosemide together with chloral hydrate may cause flushing, hot flashes, increased heart rate, and blood pressure changes. Oral furosemide is not expected to interact. Contact your doctor if you use furosemide together with chloral hydrate. You may need a dose adjustment or special test if you use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

GENERALLY AVOID: Rare cases of flushing, hot flashes, tachycardia, and labile blood pressure have been reported after administration of intravenous furosemide within 24 hours of chloral hydrate. The proposed mechanism is displacement of chloral hydrate's metabolite, trichloroacetic acid, from protein binding sites which either produces serum pH changes or displaces levothyroxine from its protein binding sites, resulting in increased levels of free levothyroxine. Chloral hydrate derivatives may also interact. Oral furosemide is not expected to interact.

MANAGEMENT: The manufacturer recommends avoiding concomitant therapy. Consider using an alternative hypnotic drug in patients who require intravenous furosemide.
