Galantamine improves the function of nerve cells in the brain. It works by preventing the breakdown of a chemical called acetylcholine. People with dementia usually have lower levels of this chemical, which is important for the processes of memory, thinking, and reasoning.

Galantamine is used to treat mild to moderate Alzheimer's type dementia.

Used topically for the treatment of persistent (nontransient) erythema associated with rosacea (acne rosacea).

Effective in treating erythema, unlike other currently available medications for rosacea (e.g., azelaic acid, doxycycline, metronidazole).

Does not affect the inflammatory lesions associated with rosacea.
