Galantamine Solution and Guaifen DAC
Determining the interaction of Galantamine Solution and Guaifen DAC and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Codeine may increase the blood levels and effects of galantamine. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if you experience increased side effects or your condition changes. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Coadministration with drugs that are inhibitors of CYP450 2D6 may increase the plasma concentrations of galantamine, which is primarily metabolized by the isoenzyme. In multiple-dose pharmacokinetic studies, a potent inhibitor such as paroxetine has been shown to increase the area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) of galantamine by 40%. Data from a population pharmacokinetic analysis of 852 patients demonstrated that amitriptyline, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, and quinidine decreased the clearance of galantamine by about 25% to 33%.
MANAGEMENT: During concomitant therapy with drugs that inhibit CYP450 2D6 activity, the possibility of prolonged and/or increased pharmacologic effects of galantamine should be considered. Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they experience nausea, vomiting, sweating, weakness, salivation, or slower respirations.
