A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Consumer:

Using trimethoprim together with cycloSPORINE may decrease the effects of cycloSPORINE. Contact your doctor if your condition changes. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: Increased serum creatinine levels and decreased efficacy of cyclosporine have been reported when administered concurrently with trimethoprim. The mechanism of this interaction is unknown.

MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised if these medications must be used concomitantly. The patient's renal function and efficacy and safety of both drugs should be monitored during concomitant administration. Use of an alternative antibiotic may be appropriate.
