Consumer:

Using NIFEdipine together with cycloSPORINE may increase the effects of NIFEdipine. Contact your doctor if you experience dizziness, low blood pressure, fainting, headache, or lower extremity swelling. If your doctor prescribes these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: Cyclosporine may increase serum concentrations of some dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers (CCBs). Serum CCB levels and the risk of side effects may be increased. Data are available for nifedipine. In addition, gingival hyperplasia has been reported with nifedipine and cyclosporine.

MANAGEMENT: Clinical and laboratory monitoring for altered efficacy and safety (e.g., increased cyclosporine levels, excessive hypotension, or nephrotoxicity) of the calcium channel blocker is recommended during concomitant therapy and when the dose of cyclosporine is changed or discontinued. CCB dosage adjustments may be required. Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they experience excessive CCB effects such as dizziness, excessive hypotension, syncope, headache, or lower extremity edema.
