You should be advised to regularly monitor your blood sugar and counseled on how to recognize and treat hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which may include symptoms such as headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nervousness, confusion, tremor, hunger, weakness, perspiration, and palpitations. You may need a dose adjustment or blood sugar checked more often to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Data from a single case report suggest that maprotiline may enhance the hypoglycemic effect of glyburide. The mechanism is unknown.
MANAGEMENT: Patients should be monitored for altered glycemic effect when maprotiline is added to or removed from a patient's regimen. Patients should be advised to regularly monitor their blood sugar, counseled on how to recognize and treat hypoglycemia (e.g., headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, tremor, hunger, weakness, or palpitations), and to notify their physician if it occurs.
