Consumer:

Pancrelipase may increase the blood levels and effects of glycerol phenylbutyrate. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if your condition changes or you experience increased side effects. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: Concomitant use of glycerol phenylbutyrate with pancreatic enzyme replacement therapies containing lipase may increase the amount of phenylbutyrate available for absorption as well as the amount of its active metabolite, phenylacetic acid (PAA), available in the circulation. Increased levels of PAA may increase the risk of adverse events such as neurotoxicity. However, clinical data are not available.

MANAGEMENT: Caution and close monitoring of ammonia levels is recommended if glycerol phenylbutyrate is to be administered with pancreatic enzyme replacement therapies containing lipase. The dose of glycerol phenylbutyrate should be adjusted as necessary per local guidelines.
