Consumer:

Using indomethacin together with phenylpropanolamine may increase your blood pressure. Contact your doctor if you experience increased side effects or if your condition changes. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or your blood pressure monitored to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: The concurrent administration of indomethacin and phenylpropanolamine was associated with severe hypertension in one reported case. The mechanism is unknown but may be related to inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis resulting in higher sensitivity to sympathomimetic-induced blood pressure increases. This interaction was not demonstrated in a study with normotensive subjects.

MANAGEMENT: Until more information is available, close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.
