Humalog 50/50 and Sucralfate Suspension
Determining the interaction of Humalog 50/50 and Sucralfate Suspension and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:The following interaction applies only if you are taking sucralfate in the liquid formulation: Sucralfate oral suspension contains a relatively high carbohydrate content. Patients with diabetes using this medication have occasionally experienced hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar. You may need a dose adjustment of insulin lispro or any other diabetic medications you are receiving during treatment with sucralfate oral suspension. Likewise, if you stop using sucralfate, the dosage(s) of your diabetic medication(s) may need to be readjusted. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Due to the carbohydrate content in the excipients, sucralfate oral suspension (but not the tablet) may interfere with the therapeutic effects of insulin and other antidiabetic agents. Episodes of hyperglycemia have been reported in diabetic patients during treatment with sucralfate oral suspension.
MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised when sucralfate oral suspension is prescribed to patients with diabetes. Close clinical monitoring of glycemic control is recommended following initiation or discontinuation of sucralfate treatment, and the dosages of concomitant antidiabetic agents adjusted as necessary. Patients should be advised to notify their physician if their blood glucose is consistently high or if they experience symptoms of severe hyperglycemia such as excessive thirst and increases in the volume or frequency of urination.
