Hyper-Sal is the chemical name for salt. This medicine can reduce some types of bacteria in certain body secretions, such as saliva.

Hyper-Sal is used to produce sputum (mucus, or phlegm) from the mouth to help improve lung function in people with cystic fibrosis, or to collect sputum for medical testing. This medication may also be used to dilute other medications inhaled through a nebulizer.

In combination with letrozole for treatment of hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer that overexpresses the human epidermal receptor type 2 (HER2) protein in postmenopausal women who are candidates for hormonal therapy. Combined therapy with lapatinib and an aromatase inhibitor has not been compared with trastuzumab-containing chemotherapy for treatment of metastatic breast cancer.

In combination with capecitabine for treatment of advanced or metastatic breast cancer in patients whose tumors overexpress HER2 and who have received prior therapy including an anthracycline, a taxane, and trastuzumab.
