Consumer:Ibandronate and zinc gluconate should not be taken orally at the same time. Products that contain magnesium, aluminum, calcium, iron, and/or other minerals may interfere with the absorption of ibandronate into the bloodstream and reduce its effectiveness. You should take zinc gluconate at least 30 minutes after the ibandronate dose. Talk to a healthcare professional if you are not sure whether a product contains something that could potentially interact with your medication or if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Products containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium and other polyvalent cations such as antacids or vitamin with mineral supplements are likely to interfere with the gastrointestinal absorption of oral bisphosphonates. For example, the bioavailability of tiludronate has been shown to decrease 80% during simultaneous administration with calcium, and 60% when aluminum- or magnesium-containing antacids were administered one hour before tiludronate.
MANAGEMENT: Antacids or other oral medications containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium and other polyvalent cations should be administered at least 30 minutes after the bisphosphonate dose.
