Consumer:

Using cycloSPORINE together with imipenem may cause nerve loss. Tell your doctor if you experience confusion, dizziness, numbness, skin tingling, muscle twitching, or seizures which may be signs of nerve damage. You may need a dose adjustment or special test if you use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: Limited data suggest that the neurotoxic effects of imipenem and cyclosporine may be additive. The mechanism is unknown but may be due to additive CNS effects.

MANAGEMENT: Until more data are available, patients should be monitored for altered cyclosporine concentrations and CNS toxicity (e.g., tremor, agitation, confusion, aphasia).
