Consumer:

Ask your doctor before using azaTHIOprine together with mycophenolate mofetil. Using azaTHIOprine with mycophenolate mofetil can add to the side effects of either medication. Call your doctor at once if you have fever, chills, sore throat, body aches, weakness, muscle pain, easy bruising or bleeding, mouth sores, pale stools, darkened urine, or severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you take both medications together, tell your doctor if you have any of these symptoms. You may need a dose adjustment or your blood pressure checked more often if you take both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

GENERALLY AVOID: Mycophenolic acid and azathioprine both exert their immunosuppressant effect by inhibiting purine metabolism. Coadministration may increase the risk and severity of hematologic toxicity due to additive pharmacodynamic effects.

MANAGEMENT: Due to their similar mechanism of action, concomitant administration of mycophenolic acid and azathioprine is not recommended.
