A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using indinavir together with itraconazole can increase the effects of indinavir. Contact your doctor if you experience more side effects or if your condition changes. If your doctor prescribes these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:ADJUST DOSE: Coadministration with itraconazole may significantly increase the plasma concentrations of indinavir. The mechanism is decreased clearance due to inhibition of CYP450 3A4 activity by itraconazole.
MANAGEMENT: The manufacturer recommends that the indinavir dose be reduced to 600 mg every 8 hours during concurrent administration. The patient should be monitored for the therapeutic and adverse effects of indinavir, and dosage adjustments should be made as necessary.
