MONITOR: Coadministration with etravirine may decrease the plasma concentrations of certain antiarrhythmic agents. The proposed mechanism is etravirine induction of CYP450 3A4, the isoenzyme responsible for the metabolic clearance of antiarrhythmics such as amiodarone, bepridil, disopyramide, lidocaine, and quinidine.

MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised if etravirine is prescribed to patients receiving antiarrhythmic agents. Drug concentration monitoring is recommended, if available.
