Consumer:

Using aminosalicylic acid together with digoxin may decrease the effects of digoxin. Contact your doctor if your condition changes of if you experience a worsening of your symptoms. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: In one small study digoxin serum concentrations decreased by 40% in two of ten patients also receiving aminosalicylic acid at a dosage of 2 grams four times a day. Digoxin levels were not changed in the remaining eight patients.

MANAGEMENT: The clinician may want to monitor serum digoxin levels more closely and observe the patient for subtherapeutic effects if these agents are used concomitantly. Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they experience a worsening of their symptoms.
