The resins are not totally selective for potassium and may bind to other cations such as lithium. This binding may also reduce the potassium exchange capability of the cation-exchange resins.
MANAGEMENT: Patients should consider separating the times of administration of the cation-exchange resin and lithium by several hours if possible.
