Lithium ER and Theolair tablets
Determining the interaction of Lithium ER and Theolair tablets and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using lithium together with theophylline can decrease the effects of lithium. If you are already taking these medications, you should be monitored for altered theophylline or lithium effects if either medication is stopped. You may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Theophylline may decrease plasma lithium levels by increasing renal elimination of lithium. The magnitude of the decrease may be sufficient to result in loss of therapeutic control. Also, when lithium is added to a stable theophylline regimen, higher initial lithium dosage may be necessary.
MANAGEMENT: The patient should be closely monitored for altered theophylline or lithium effect when either of these drugs is added to or discontinued from a stable regimen.
