The mechanism of the interaction has not been delineated. Concomitant use of the 1-day or 3-day oil-based miconazole suppository resulted in an overall increase in exposure up to 67% for ethinyl estradiol and 32% for segesterone; while use of the water-based vaginal miconazole cream did not affect exposure of ethinyl estradiol or segesterone from the vaginal ring system.

MANAGEMENT: Concomitant use of oil-based miconazole vaginal suppositories or oil-based vaginal lubricants with segesterone-ethinyl estradiol vaginal ring system is not recommended. If treatment is required for a vaginal condition, water-based miconazole vaginal cream, oral therapy, or water-based vaginal lubricants should be considered.
