Lucentis and Visudyne

Using verteporfin together with ranibizumab ophthalmic can cause inflammation to the eye. Contact your doctor if your condition worsens or if you develop eye irritation. You may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

MONITOR: The manufacturer reports that when ranibizumab intravitreal injection was used adjunctively with verteporfin photodynamic therapy, 12 of 105 patients (11%) developed serious intraocular inflammation. In 10 of the 12 patients, inflammation occurred when ranibizumab was administered 7 days (+/- 2 days) after verteporfin photodynamic therapy.

MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised if ranibizumab is coadministered with verteporfin photodynamic therapy.
