Mecamylamine is used to treat moderate to severe hypertension (high blood pressure). Because of its many side effects, mecamylamine is not commonly used.

Mecamylamine is also used to treat malignant hypertension (extremely high blood pressure that comes on suddenly). Malignant hypertension can damage organs in the body if left untreated.

Trexall interferes with the growth of certain cells of the body, especially cells that reproduce quickly, such as cancer cells, bone marrow cells, and skin cells.

Trexall is used to treat certain types of cancer of the breast, skin, head and neck, or lung. This medicine is also used to treat severe psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Trexall is usually given after other medications have been tried without successful treatment of symptoms.
