Methotrexate Oral Solution and Probenecid Tablets
Determining the interaction of Methotrexate Oral Solution and Probenecid Tablets and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using probenecid together with methotrexate can increase the methotrexate levels in your body. This can cause pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, mouth sores, nausea, vomiting, black or bloody stools, and urinating less than usual or not at all. If you take both medications together, tell your doctor if you have any of these symptoms. You may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely take both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR CLOSELY: Probenecid inhibits the renal elimination of methotrexate. The pharmacologic effect and toxicity of methotrexate may be increased, especially in patients receiving high-dose methotrexate.
MANAGEMENT: If this combination must be used, a reduction in methotrexate dosage may be needed and the patient should be closely monitored for signs and symptoms of bone marrow suppression, hepatotoxicity, and nephrotoxicity. Patients should be advised to promptly report symptoms including fever, chills, sore throat, bruising, bleeding, stomatitis, malaise, shortness of breath, lower extremity edema, jaundice, or change in stool or urine color to their physician.
