Methotrexate Sodium and Soriatane
Determining the interaction of Methotrexate Sodium and Soriatane and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using methotrexate and acitretin is not recommended. Taking these drugs together may cause liver problems. Acitretin can cause severe, life-threatening birth defects if the mother takes the medication during pregnancy. Never use acitretin if you are pregnant. Both a primary and a secondary form of birth control must be used together and for at least 3 years after stopping therapy. Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns. It is important that you tell your healthcare provider about all other medications that you are using including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using your medications without talking to your doctor first.
Professional:CONTRAINDICATED: The use of etretinate (of which acitretin is the active metabolite) in combination with methotrexate has been associated with an increased risk of hepatitis. The exact mechanism of interaction is unknown but does not appear to be pharmacokinetically related. These agents individually have been associated with the development of hepatotoxicity and may have additive effects during coadministration.
MANAGEMENT: The use of acitretin in combination with methotrexate is considered contraindicated.
