A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Consumer:

Ask your doctor before using secobarbital together with methoxyflurane. This can cause serious side effects on your kidneys. Call your doctor if your experience fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, and severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

GENERALLY AVOID: Barbiturates may increase risk of methoxyflurane-induced nephrotoxicity. Laboratory and animal studies have demonstrated that barbiturates increase the metabolism of methoxyflurane to nephrotoxic metabolities (particularly inorganic fluoride), probably by CYP450 induction.

MANAGEMENT: Methoxyflurane should generally not be administered to patients receiving barbiturates concurrently and for several weeks after barbiturates have been discontinued.
