Consumer:

Consumer information for this minor interaction is not currently available. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients. Minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed.

Professional:

A case report suggests that methylphenidate may increase the blood concentrations of cyclosporine. The mechanism of interaction and a causal relationship have not been established. In the report, a 10-year-old heart transplant patient developed a significant increase in cyclosporine blood levels shortly after initiation of methylphenidate 5 mg twice a day. The dosage of cyclosporine was subsequently decreased and blood levels returned to therapeutic levels. Methylphenidate was eventually increased to 20 mg twice a day without further incident. Although a drug interaction was suspected by the investigators, patient noncompliance before addition of methylphenidate could not be ruled out.
