Misoprostol and Sodium Picosulfate, Magnesium Oxide, and Citric Acid Solution
Determining the interaction of Misoprostol and Sodium Picosulfate, Magnesium Oxide, and Citric Acid Solution and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Ask your doctor before using miSOPROStol together with magnesium oxide. Magnesium oxide or any magnesium-containing antacids can worsen miSOPROStol-induced diarrhea. Additionally, antacids in general can decrease the effects of miSOPROStol. If an antacid is needed, one that contains aluminum or calcium should be used. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:GENERALLY AVOID: Magnesium-containing antacids can exacerbate misoprostol-induced diarrhea. Additionally, antacids in general can reduce the bioavailability of misoprostol acid (the active metabolite of misoprostol), although clinical trials of misoprostol conducted with concomitant antacid use suggest that this effect is not clinically important.
MANAGEMENT: Use of misoprostol in combination with magnesium-containing antacids is not recommended. If an antacid is needed, one that contains aluminum or calcium should be prescribed.
