Nafcillin injection and Nicardipine
Determining the interaction of Nafcillin injection and Nicardipine and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using nafcillin together with niCARdipine may decrease the effects of niCARdipine. Contact your doctor if your condition changes. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Concurrent administration of nafcillin has been reported to result in a large reduction in the plasma concentration of nifedipine. A similar reaction and possible loss of efficacy may be expected if nafcillin were used concurrently with other calcium channel blockers including diltiazem, felodipine, nicardipine, or verapamil. Nafcillin is a potent inducer of CYP450 3A4 enzymes which metabolize these calcium channel blockers.
MANAGEMENT: If these calcium channel blockers must be or are being used with nafcillin, the patient should be monitored closely for change in the efficacy of the calcium channel blocker, when nafcillin is added to or removed from the patient's drug therapy. Use of a different antibiotic may be appropriate.
