Nifedipine Capsules and Tacrolimus (Systemic)
Determining the interaction of Nifedipine Capsules and Tacrolimus (Systemic) and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using tacrolimus together with NIFEdipine may increase the effects of tacrolimus. Contact your doctor if you experience pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, painful urination, blood in your urine, urinating less than usual or not at all, muscle weakness, tiredness, fast or pounding heartbeat, and mild shortness of breath. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: A retrospective study suggests that nifedipine may elevate tacrolimus whole blood trough concentrations. The mechanism is possibly due to nifedipine-induced inhibition of tacrolimus hepatic metabolism.
MANAGEMENT: In patients receiving concomitant nifedipine and tacrolimus, renal function and tacrolimus whole blood trough concentrations should be monitored and the tacrolimus dose should be adjusted as needed. If nifedipine is discontinued a tacrolimus dosage increase may be required.
