Consumer:

Ask your doctor before using tetracaine together with sulfaSALAzine. Tetracaine may decrease the effects of sulfaSALAzine. Ask your doctor to consider an alternative to tetracaine. If your doctor prescribes these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

GENERALLY AVOID: Ester-type anesthetics are hydrolyzed to paraaminobenzoic acid which may inhibit the action of sulfonamides.

MANAGEMENT: The administration ester-type anesthetics to patients who are on sulfonamides should generally be avoided. Amide-type anesthetics are not expected to interact and may be considered as alternatives (e.g., bupivacaine, levobupivacaine, lidocaine, mepivacaine).
