Consumer:

Talk to your doctor before using rifAMPin together with ospemifene. Combining these medications may decrease the blood levels of ospemifene and make it ineffective or less effective in treating your condition. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

GENERALLY AVOID: Coadministration with rifampin may decrease the plasma concentrations of ospemifene. The proposed mechanism is rifampin induction of ospemifene metabolism via CYP450 3A4, 2C9, and 2C19. In 12 postmenopausal women pretreated with rifampin 600 mg once daily for 5 days, administration of ospemifene 60 mg after breakfast on day 6 resulted in 51% and 58% decreases in ospemifene peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and systemic exposure (AUC), respectively, compared to administration of ospemifene alone. Reduced therapeutic effects may occur.

MANAGEMENT: Ospemifene should not be prescribed in combination with rifampin.
