Consumer:

Using sucralfate together with sodium bicarbonate can decrease the effects of sucralfate. Sucralfate and sodium bicarbonate doses should be separated by at least half an hour. You may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Antacid-induced gastric pH changes may reduce binding of sucralfate with the gastrointestinal mucosa resulting in reduced therapeutic efficacy. In addition, aluminum may accumulate in patients with renal failure who are concomitantly taking sucralfate with aluminum-containing antacids.

MANAGEMENT: Sucralfate and antacid doses should be separated by at least half an hour.
